Allied Works: Unique New Build on North Mississippi
A new build by Allied Works Architecture is destined for my neighborhood on North Mississippi Ave. Walking up and down Mississippi Ave this lot was an abandoned home for a long time. When the home came down last year I was super curious as to what would be going up as it is next to another large vacant lot. It’ll surely be an intriguing design for the block. Check out some more details about this build below –
New Development: Mississippi Avenue
The firm is designing 15 residential units in a 4-story development. The ground level will house retail businesses, with 3 levels of apartments above. The units will include nine studios, three one-bedrooms, and three two-bedrooms. It’ll also feature screened brick and contrasting metal awnings. It seems to tie in nicely with the new Ben Waechter project a few blocks north. Take a look at the design here!
Allied Works: History & Designs
Allied Works was founded in 1994 by Brad Cloepfil and set up shop in Portland. In the last 27 years, the firm has grown and taken on monumental projects. For our Portland residents, you’ve likely seen their designs in Providence Park, the Pacific Northwest College of Art interior, the Portland Art Museum, and Catlin Gabel’s Art Center. If you drive through NW Portland, you may pass by a few of their other residential designs. Earlier this year, the Allied Works team completed a build off NW 23rd that “utilize[s] an extremely small and constrained site, and [does] so in a way that would create genuine value and distinction within Portland’s ‘Alphabet’ Historic District”. The build is simply stunning, with Japanese glazed porcelain tile and Juliet balconies.
Outside of Portland, Allied Works has designed and remodeled buildings across the world! One of my favorite projects is the Dutchess County Estate in New York. The guest house is located in the middle of a mature forest. The design is inspiring, blending effortlessly into the forest. Oh, I would give anything to escape here! What a perfect getaway from the city.
Check out a few other of my favorite designs:
Pixar Animation Studios — Brooklyn
Sokol Blosser Winery Tasting Room — Yamhill Valley
Hawaii Presidential Center — Honolulu
National Music Center of Canada — Calgary, Alberta
There are not too many updates (yet) on the North Mississippi build, but stay tuned. Every day I pass by the construction, I get more excited to see the finished product. For now, stay up to date at Allied Works’ website and follow me on Instagram for any upcoming updates.
